Hedwig’s Theme - John Williams
The only leitmotif from the original film to appear in all of the sequels. I am drinking coffee and getting the music ready for Finn’s birthday party. I can’t believe she is going to be ten on Monday.

the death of dumbledore
“To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure. ” —Albus Dumbledore
We took the girls to see the Half Blood Prince yesterday. Finn has read all of the books now, so she knew what was going to happen. Still, she was on the edge of her seat laughing and smiling for the whole movie. For the whole movie, that is, until Dumbledore died, and then she cried and I had to hug her. She is such a sweet sensitive girl.

the death of sirius black (stansfield gets off)
Finn cried when she read this in the book and she cried again seeing it last night. She is my very sensitive girl who cannot bear to see people hurt.
Last night was movie night with the girls. I cooked pizzas and we made popcorn. Finn finished Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix while we were in Kingsport last weekend so that was our pick for last night. Watching film adaptations of books the girls have read always produces interesting conversations about similiarities, differences, the requirements of different forms, and especially the difference between their imagined vision of characters and elements versus the filmmaker’s choices. The girls are very opinionated about where the films get it wrong.
For me, this image strongly suggests Gary Oldman’s character in The Professional (Leon), Norman Stansfield, preparing for violence. We did not discuss that reference last night, but I look forward to the day we watch The Professional together, and Finn tells me that Gary Oldman always makes her think of Sirius Black.
