The local market has started stocking the 136 oz. family size jar of Sambal Oelek (shown here next to the standard-size 18 oz. jar.) I was hoping nobody had noticed how much of this stuff I have been eating, but I guess this development will reduce the number of last minute hot sauce related errands that I have to run.
After I took this picture, a long-haul truck driver from Pensacola asked me about it, and we wound up talking shit about hot sauce for the next ten minutes. He showed me a Taiwanese chili sauce that he “has eaten since he was seven years old; this is the real stuff.” A jar of said Taiwanese chili sauce now sits in the mumblelard family pantry.
