caring for your own dead (by lisa carlson, published by upper access publishers, hinesburg, vermont, 1987)
Among its informative pages, this discarded public library book includes an outline of the steps necessary, in each of the fifty states, to legally bury a human corpse in your backyard or to legally carry a body in the trunk of your car.
It can be found shelved in the pathological folklore section of the mumblelard family library between Vampires, Burial, and Death: Folklore and Reality by Paul Barber, which explores the origins of vampire myths in phenomena associated with early burial practices, and Recollections of Death: a Medical Investigation by Dr. Michael B. Sabom, which catalogs and examines the physiological origins of the phenomena associated with near-death experiences.

field guide to the psilocybin mushroom species common to north america (by f.c. ghouled, photos by josé, 1972)

Additional copies may be ordered at a cost of $1.25 each from:
Guidance Publications, New Orleans, Louisiana

The startup I was working for was in early stage collapse, and the “visionary” lead architect was among the first to get cut.  While the other looters were arguing over the big monitor and the nice chair, I was going through his bookshelves where I found this little gem which can now be found shelved in the mumblelard family library.

Jim Pendleton’s Barn House

I have a copy of this documentary on VHS.  It is one of the treasures of the mumblelard family library.

Floyd and I went to the Barn House and met Jim a couple of times in the late 90s.  When we visited, Jim was living in a small trailer to the side of the property, and the Barn House hadn’t actually been inhabited for a while. It was in its decline at that point, and since then it has burned down.  We still got to wander through the whole thing.  It was a crazy kids fort on a massive scale.

This documentary is a rare treat and a wonderful look at a unique piece of folk art and its creator.  It is eighteen minutes in total but well worth the time.

mumblelard childhood bible
This is the bible I carried from age seven, when I was baptized, until age seventeen, when I left the church. I left it behind when I moved out of my parents’ house. A few years ago they gave me a few boxes of objects from my childhood including old art projects, star wars figures, notebooks and other totems of my youth.  I never really went through this stuff until recently.
Finding this book was a shock.  I spent so much time reading the bible.  The sermons, all aspects of the church services really, were very difficult for me to sit through. I could write on the church bulletin and read the bible.  These were the only escapes that I was allowed. All things considered, it isn’t a bad read. The old testament is much better than the new testament, but the new testament does have the horror show apocalyptic stuff.  I guess it depends on what you are into.
I guess I will hold onto it. It feels strange for it to resurface after all these years.  Maybe it should stay in the basement a little while longer.

Was I going Insane? - Mike Schank

Mike Schank is best known for his appearance in the documentary American Movie.  He also performed most of the soundtrack which includes several of his original compositions. If you have not seen this movie, you should make every effort to see it as soon as possible or now.

This is one of my favorite songs by him. I think it is a powerfully intense and soulful piece of work. happy wednesday to you -mumblelard
